Berlin Wall Memorial

At least 139 people were killed, according to our guide, the most were young men around twenty five who were attempting to get to their girlfriends. There were considerably more who died due to despair from not being able to join with family members.

The memorial displays the photos of those killed.  The Extra depicts a wall which allows people to pass through.

The morning was really interesting as we traveled on the underground where our guide showed us photos along the platform of the measures the Communists took to prevent escape through the railway tunnels - hadn't thought about this before.

This afternoon Lorraine and I went to the Jewish Museum.  This was recommended by a friend.  It was interesting and was a lot larger than I expected.  Tomorrow we are off to Warsaw on the train.
