9th Hole

Today's the day ......................... to carry on regardless

They said it would rain - and boy has it solidly chucked it down, through most of last night and all of today so far.

But rain or no rain, dogs need a walk and so we took Maisie along the path  towards Corstorphine Hill.  Murrayfield Golf Course is on either side of this path and it was in rather a sorry state with water-logged greens and rain-battered fairways.  Incredibly though, dispite all this, there were a couple of golfers trying to putt on the 9th green - presumably half way through their round of golf.

It made me think of my Dad, a very keen golfer all his life, who told us as kids that, "It never rains on a Golf Course .........!"  This was his standard reply when anyone asked why he was off playing golf in the sort of weather that would keep most people indoors.  The thing was that I believed him utterly - and literally.  I really did think that there was some sort of a rain shadow over all the golf courses of the world.  I never questioned how or why this could possibly be true -  it just was.

Today though, it was plain for all to see.  Unfortunately, golf courses were just as wet as everywhere else .........................
