Summer Sunday Afternoon Stroll

Sophie wanted to go to the swimming pool again this morning and was disappointed yesterday's mariachi band weren't there today.

We took her home to Mum & Dad after lunch, then stopped at Walton Hill for a stroll on the way back, from where this view was taken.

When I was a boy, it was a family tradition to go for a stroll on sunny Summer Sunday afternoons. If we were lucky and there was a bit of spare money, they sometimes included an early evening stop at a pub for a drink and a packet of crisps (plain, salt in a twist of blue paper).

When it came to writing our "news" at school on Monday morning, I was in the habit of writing about our Sunday strolls. I remember after one particularly detailed account of our route, covering several pages of exercise book, consisting mainly of sentences joined by "and then" and concluding "and then we got home", my long suffering class teacher, Miss Schofield, simply wrote at the bottom: "Thank goodness for that!".

Long suffering readers of my blip entries will probably share her sentiments :)
