Breathe In And Out...

One day, all roundabouts will look like this...

This is a backblip for Monday, which was a wet, windy miserable day in Perth, where I was working for the day. Despite the weather, the sun was still shining metaphorically outside the Scottish Government agricultural payments office where my meeting took place. Every year, this roundabout has a fantastic display of flowers which used to be common in arable fields, such as poppies, corn flowers and, as here, the lovely bright yellow corn marigold. The colours of the roundabout change through the summer and it is wonderful, even in mid-September, to see such a display. To be honest, we could have displays like this all over the place, on roundabouts and verges in our cities, towns and villages. They would be great for pollinating insects like bees and hoverflies which would, in turn, help with pest control and pollination in our gardens as well as just improving the general amenity with displays of native wildflowers that need very little maintenance and certainly wouldn't require the regulation 12 grass cutting visits a year. This would also save us all, as council tax payers, some money!
