Day20- All in a Day's Work

All good things come to an end, and our sojourn in this lovely place is coming to an end. We returned the rented car to Kirkwall this morning and IainatCreel kindly ran us back to base. The streets in both towns were swamped by 2,000+ passengers off the Cunard cruise ship, Queen Elizabeth, which docked in the town this morning.
To have a sense of perspective, we tried to remind ourselves that just over 9 years ago when we sailed on the inaugural cruise of that same ship to the West Indies, we must have appeared much the same to the local residents when we visited their islands.

Our valedictory meal at the Hamnavoe last night was amazing and on the par with the one last week at the Foveran in Kirkwall. Hairy Tatties went down very well with His Lordship and the Tusk was a new fish for our repertoire.

My blip was taken very early this morning when I walked, as though the only living person in Stromness, along lanes with the most amazing views over the town before returning by the harbour to watch men at work.

the extra is the view from on high of the 6:30 am ferry leaving Stromness for Scrabster. Tomorrow, unfortunately, we will be on it.
