A Collector of Oddities

Cardiff Castle

We visited Cardiff Castle today. The photo shows the stadium in the background (which seems to be known as Principality or Millennium, depending on where you look).

We hadn't fully appreciated that it is almost completely hollow inside and you have to pay extra for a tour of the house part which we felt disinclined to do. It wasn't very clear what you could visit without going on the tour. They had also run out of audio guides, despite it not being that busy. Still there was a nice exhibition on WW2 (the castle was used as an air raid shelter) and a falconry shed. See the extra for a cute eagle owl hiding under the falconers chair.

We then walked round the animal wall. Of course the vulture was my favourite - I love vultures (see extra). I feel quite well inclined towards the 3rd Marquess of Bute for including it among his 15 animals.

We rounded off our afternoon with a visit to a haunted pub nearby although didn't notice any ghostly goings on.
