I will make you fishers of men

One of the places we take most visitors is Barsta chapel. Barsta is a naturally sheltered harbour and was a base for the fishermen who travelled north every spring to fish these waters. They always built a chapel at their base and they were often decorated with scenes from the bible, though the figures were dressed in the clothing of the day, in this case the late 1600's.  Being fishermen there was nearly always some biblical fishing scenes.
Here is the story of Jesus recruiting his first disciples, and in the painting you see John, James (Jacobus in Swedish), Peter and Christ. The text reads; "A story about ????, the catching of fish, Luke's Gospel, Chapter 5, anno 1699"
The chapel is fairly small, unheated, always cool in summer, and still very simple.
It was a great day out and a lot of photos were taken, so there are a few extras here. The first shows that simple interior of Barsta chapel, with Jan, Hanne and Peter chatting to another group. The second is taken just outside the chapel, looking down to the sea. The third extra is connected to my blip from yesterday. That showed a very old wooden shingle roof on our Red House, and today I saw a new shingle roof on a small cabin in Nordingrå. So you can compare the old with the new...
