Glooming

This is a view of the city centre looking east from East Ordsall Lane in Salford.

The skyline is dominated by the Beetham Tower and the soon to be completed No 1 Spinningfield.

The middle distance is occupied by the railway viaduct and the dramatic arch of the new Ordsall Chord bridge which will carry the new rail line over the River Irwell.

The foreground is a canal basin. Just beyond, lock gates would allow boats to enter from the river - this is the beginning of the 15 mile long Manchester Bolton Bury Canal which closed in 1961 and is now only 40% in water.

I was going to make this a mono image. But I much prefer it in colour - I like the greens of the duckweed and purple of the buddlia, combined with the glooming sky.  A contrast with all those new flashy buildings in the distance. So it's a Not Mono Monday shot.
