Nice is Nice!

We've arrived in Vieux Nice ( the old town) and what a view from our apartment which is called Piaf. We overlook the Cours Saleya towards the sea and are just around the corner from the Opéra de Nice. It's very nice!

We were delayed by an hour and a half, but fortunately we had access to the British Airways Club Lounge with free food and drinks, so it wasn't too bad. The biggest problem was that the company we booked our apartment through, send someone to meet you and they charge £72 for arrivals after 8pm! Luckily we arrived at 8.01 and didn't get charged.

The apartment is lovely, although it's on the top (fifth floor) of a really old building with no lift and 98 steps to get to it! Once inside, it's completely modernised and has three patio doors opening onto little Juliet balconies, hence the view.

We've found a Carrefour City and bought a few provisions to get is through the next couple of days, unpacked and are enjoying the view with a nice bottle of Provence Rosé. Tomorrow morning we'll go exploring and then we have the Bastille Day celebrations, which of course this year are tinged with the memories of last years' terror attack, and is called 'Journée Hommage' . The French President will be here apparently for the parade, there's a free concert in the evening followed by a minutes silence at 10.34pm and then fireworks which the families of those killed wanted to go ahead.

When we walked to the supermarket we saw that all of the roads in the area where the parade will take place, are fenced off with very high, solid barriers, and I guess security is going to be very high.

In other news, Sherbie had laid her fourth egg this morning. We cleaned her cage out and I managed to replace the eggs with the fake ones and luckily she got back on the nest without realising they'd been swapped. Charlotte has instructions on what to do in our absence and has said she'll keep us posted.

Also, today is the fifth anniversary of Dad's passing - where's that time gone? I think about him all the time and when I do, I smile and think of happy times :-)

I've just looked up from writing my blip and saw the moon over the chateau on the hill, if only I'd looked up sooner, I'd have ended up changing my image. As it is, it looks spectacular but it doesn't have the same effect on a photo.

Anyway, I'll say 'Bonsoir, et à demain'!
