A pair of oyster catchers are currently using the local bowling green as a playpen.
The three chicks are able to hop out of the gully onto the green itself, but can't yet get up the higher side to the world at large. Mostly they run up and down the gully, trying to guess where a parent will next appear with a beakful of food.
I did think of posting this photo as a "What happened next?" quiz. What actually happened next was: The middle chick overbalanced and fell into the gulley; the mother bird hopped across onto the green; and chick on the right who looks like he's "dancing" here had actually anticipated where mum was going to land - he was there waiting for her, and got the worm! :)
