Peaks & Pyramids

What a beautiful day! After all the gloom of yesterday today was very warm and very sunny and I had a massive swim this morning - the place to myself until another woman arrived, had a paddle the donned a swimming hat and did some serious swimming, front crawl and everything. Head in the water stuff. I tend to just float.

In the afternoon an unexpected treat as some friends gave us tickets to go and see Dame Marina Warner in Bantry house, as part of the Literary festival. They couldn't go so would we like too.  We had a wander around the garden first - this bit is immaculate, the topiary toped to an inch of its life and very impressive, but there are wild bits too. We had tea and lemon drizzle cake in the orangery where I was approached by a woman wanting to know if I was the one swimming this morning! It was she of the front crawl and bathing hat!  Then went to the talk. Excellent. Marina Warner focuses on fairy stories (the real ones, Grimm etc), mythologies and feminism, and was an eloquent and erudite speaker but with a good sense of humour, and very unstuffy. She was interviewed by a young woman who's name I've forgotten but she did an excellent job.

The sound of silage making everywhere and I'm quite tempted to have another swim - high tide around 8pm. Could be nice.
More literary goings-on tomorrow night too! And it's series 7 of GoT!
