Puffin on the Brough of Birsay

A beautiful day up there today, enjoyed by loads of visitors, but getting up at 5.30 meant that I was on the Brough by eight or so and had it to myself for a while. Looked out for the pod of orcas seen there last night with the usual lack of luck. Guillemots had chicks but shield them from passing gulls, bonxies and photographers, so it was hard to get any real count- did see about 6. Only 1 Arctic skua and a few great skuas the whole walk. At least 4 young wheatears. A peregrine over the brough looked like a juvenile. About 8 puffins on the brough and 9 along by Long Geo and 9 tystie there too.The only butterflies were meadow browns.
