Sgwarnog: In the Field

The last time I saw Bradford City was at Wembley, tonight it was their turn  to visit Nethermoor Park, as Guiseley continue their programme of friendlies against neighbouring league clubs.

City have been going through a substantial rebuild of their squad, with tonight's starting XI including many of the new signings. Guiseley still have a number of trialists on show, but a couple of those have been converted to signings over the past few days, and there is a promise of more to come, so we'll soon get a better idea of what the team will look like for the season ahead.

Guiseley started with more energy and soon took the lead from a corner. City grew into it, but the first half was fairly even and 1-0 it remained at the break. Two second-half goals from set pieces saw City take the lead and 1-2 it finished.

For me the most positive aspect for Bradford was the contribution of some of the younger, less heralded signings along with a few progressing from the Academy. It's a little early to say how some of the senior signings will settle in. They have home friendlies against Sunderland and Newcastle over the next week and I should get to at least one of those to see how things are progressing. For Guiseley there seems a bit more confidence about the place - after two years of last day survivals perhaps this season we'll see a team which establishes itself more securely in the National League.
