The Hall

A traditional full English breakfast sustained us for a long and tiring day of fieldwork at Kedleston Park. We walked over 11km, much of it through long grass, which is much more exhausting than walking on paths, and caused my good hip to twinge by the end of the day.

This is a view of the back of the hall, taken from the hill above it - I loved the symmetry of the house and the contrast between the very neatly mown cross-hatched grass near the house and the wilder.flowering grasses in the park.

I managed to lose Pete in 'The Wilderness', just at the point when his phone ran out of battery, so had a worrying time wondering whether we'd ever find each other again. How did we cope in the old days before mobile phones? Luckily he turned up after about a quarter of an hour and the rest of the day went smoothly.

We drove home in the evening when the traffic was light, and had an excellent Indian take-away with the rest of the family. A good way to end a busy week.
