A Day Worth Recording

Silver Wedding

I, K, take you, E, to be my wife,
to have and to hold from this day forward,
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love, cherish and worship,
till death us do part,
according to God's holy law,
and this is my solemn vow.


Today we give thanks for 25 years of very happy marriage.

The pears were a gift, given during the wedding service, by our good friend Kit who gave part of the service. They were used in her address to illustrate that part of their beauty was the result of the imperfections...

The service was an unconventional affair. Essentially an Anglican service as we'd not become Quakers by then, though we had been attending Meetings. We added some 'Quaker-esque' components including speaking our vows unprompted.

Which means I can still remember them.

..including the mnemonic "Love cherries and wash-up" for the bit I struggled to commit to memory.

Celebrated tonight with a meal at 'The Vaults' in Cambridge, with special friends including the Best Man. Not sure that all of our student-life chemical-experimentation reminiscing was entirely wise to expose to the next generation...
