Bird Ballet

As I reviewed the photos I took of this mother-daughter Pileated Woodpecker pair having breakfast at our high feeder, I suddenly realized that the daughter was imitating her mother's moves, like a small child imitating her mother's (or teacher's) dance steps.

My Blip photo shows the fledgling watching her mother eat at the feeder, and the first two extra photos show her imitating her mother's watchful behavior, checking the skies for possible danger. In the final extra photo, the fledgling is successfully managing the feeder, while her mother seems to be looking on with approval.

Birds are endlessly fascinating!

(An early blip, as the rest of today and tomorrow are jam-packed.)
