Yorkshire Day2-Sailing By at Whitby

The weather was undecided this morning, with a heavy low cloud hanging over the landscape. Nothing daunted, we drove with raincoats at the ready to Danby Moors Country Park which not only provides sustenance for the peckish but has local wildlife information and a lovely art gallery.

As we continued on afterwards to Whitby the cloud lifted over the town, just enough for the sun to come out, with a resulting dramatic rise in temperature. This meant that the climb up the 199 steps to the ruined Whitby Abbey was a hot one, but worth it for the dramatic views over the red roofs to the sea.

There was a sketching interlude, (my hostess is an artist) and then we walked back down the 199 steps to have a late fishy lunch in the town. I have to say my crab salad slipped over very easily......and with that, the mist rolled in again and we drove back over the shrouded moors to Thirsk.

I couldn't resist this year's photo of His Lordship and me under that passage sign!
