NT South Lakes Conservation Group at Blea Tarn

The National Trust South Lakes Conservation Group were out at Blea Tarn today. The objective was to pull up, dig up or chop down the Rhododendron  re-growth. For much of the day I was working in an area that could only be described as a midge infested swamp. We removed loads of rhododendron but unfortunately struggled all day to get the fire going and keep it going. With absolutely no wind the green leafy sticks were unwilling to burn and my hand blistered with the continual effort of wafting. Eventually we had to call it a day and leave the piles of cut rhododendron for another group to dispose of.
