Fairy Stream, Mui Ne, Vietnam

Day 23

A four hour drive on very twisty, steep mountain roads from Dalat to the coast. So interesting to see coffee and rubber plantations, dragon fruit bushes in abundance, secured against concrete posts. Many other fruits - papaya, bananas. We also saw rice laid out to dry on side roads. We had to stop several times when water buffalo and cattle herds blocked the road. A huge cascade of water released off from a dam, probably due to all the heavy rain. At one point, part of the road was washed away. Our excellent driver managed to get the van through the mud.

Good to see flat land, and the sea. Staying overnight in a beautiful resort in Mui Ne. We have a bungalow amongst palm trees, beside a private beach. Pho Ga for lunch, a walk on the beach, then headed for the Red Dunes. Deep orange coloured sand, many youngsters zooming down on sand sledges.

Then on to the Fairy Stream. I hadn't realised we would be walking up the stream. Quite shallow, but some deeper sections with faster moving water. It was like a busy street, with food vendors along the banks. A unique place, of amazing sandstone formations. High cliffs of white and orange stone. There is a lot of erosion. I really enjoyed this experience, quite relaxing walking in the warm water.

Italian dining this evening, then time to put our feet up. Another long journey tomorrow.
