A Tricky Day

B and I were all set to take part in the Big Butterfly Count today but everything seemed against us.  Our first location was the top of Warham Camp (an Iron Age hill fort) near Wells-Next-the-Sea...but despite a beautiful selection of chalk land flowers it was way too windy.  Then we found a sheltered lane, where there were some butterflies...but no flowers so they were flitting about but not landing so we couldn't accurately identify them.

So, next we tried Holkham Hall, thinking that the walled garden would be ideal, sheltered and with flowers...but when we got there it was just as windy!  I did however manage to get a photo of these two (which I think are Large Whites).  The extra shows a bee who seems to have had a successful day collecting pollen...I think the butterfly count will have to wait until another day.
