Brian's Garden Journal 22 7 2017 - Butterfly Time

Despite the variable weather the number of butterflies around is on the increase. We had a very poor year in 2016, as did most places, but this year, while not great, is definitely an improvement. Commas and Gatekeepers are around most of the time, but the best time to photograph them is in the late afternoon when they bask in the low sun.

I got a surprise yesterday when a Kestrel carrying a mouse landed on the wall outside my window. I've never seen one in the garden before.
