Tandem meets tandem

Yesterday I said that today there would be 'more cycling, but the distances will be shorter and the terrain much gentler'. I was right on the first two counts, but not the third. Our 10 mile route from Benderloch to Oban was very hilly, as was the short trek from the ferry port on the Isle of Colonsay to our bed and breakfast. It feels like we have been doing continuous interval training for days! However, we should give our aching bones a rest over the period that we are on Colonsay. I will insist on walking to the beach tomorrow.

The highlight of our day was to meet another couple and their tandem (as blipped) at the queue for the ferry from Oban to Colonsay and Islay. They too have had many adventures cycling à deux in the highlands and islands. Over the course of the afternoon and early evening, including dinner on the boat, we all enjoyed recounting tandem tales to one another. Our new companions had quite a lot in common with us (they even know Ridgeback13) so we all got on very well together. We were really sorry to leave them on the boat to continue to Islay when we disembarked at Colonsay this evening.

We're now staying at a lovely bed and breakfast at the north of Colonsay for four nights. Kiloran Bay is just a short walk down the road. With good weather forecast I now hope to spend the next few days lying on the beach reading my book. We may even have time for a game of Scrabble now that we are stationary for a short while.

Exercise today: 15 miles of tandem riding.
