St Lachteen & the Greyhound

Doesn't she blend in well? Actually there were three greyhounds, all sporting pink collars and all very bouncy and all belonging to Connie, who I disturbed having his lunch with inquiries about holy wells. He was astonished I knew of it, said no one had ever been to visit it before and put on his wellies. I was gobsmacked by this well. A massive beech tree stood solitary in a large green field. When you looked closer the tree had grown over the well - the neat stone walls still remaining. The original lintel and a lot of stonework had fallen for, as Connie explained, his cattle loved this tree and would rub against it, even climb up it! Not good for the well which was now dry and had been for about 40 years according to Connie for that was when the field was drained. Probably fed up with all this interference the well was after shifting and had moved about two miles away to another site where it was now flowing nicely and had a proper well house. See extra.
Something very special about this place. Dedicated to St Lachteen should you be curious, feast day 19th March - same as Himself's birthday.
