Red Admiral/Vanessa Atalanta

We grabbed a couple sandwiches at our favorite bakery and headed three miles up the coast to spend a few hours at Wilder Ranch State Park. There is a rutted dirt trail along the bluffs overlooking the ocean that is filled with adventure in every season; we saw quail and bunnies, seals, gulls and cormorants and pelicans, several kinds of bees, lots of butterflies and fields of wildflowers--pink, white, purple and yellow strewn every which way over the landscape. It was a perfect lovely afternoon, no wind to ruffle our feathers.

Came home to find that a friend had left me a startling amount of raspberries on the side porch. There is a clafoutis in the oven right now--I can smell the fruit baking, and I'm rifling through various recipe stashes to see what else I can come up with. Jam for sure. And freeze some. And pass on some of the bounty. What an amazing treat!
