Big Breakfast

An alligator this morning was in the process of consuming a huge fish it had caught along the edge of the salt marsh.

This was probably the biggest fish I ever saw an alligator catch and eat, and I figured it would hopefully qualify for the Wild Wed Challenge.  :-)

Although in this picture it appears as if the alligator is attempting to swallow the fish whole, head first, that wasn't what was happening.
The gator was thrashing the fish around trying to break it down into smaller chunks which makes it easier to eat.

Alligators don't chew their food as much as rather they gulp down hunks and pieces of their catch.
This boy will take some time breaking down the fish, he will take it back into the water to soften it up more, then bring it back onto land for further deconstruction which will take a bit of time for sure.

Nature in action.

Oh, and extra points given if you can spot Crabby the sand crab standing there watching the activity and being thankful he wasn't on the menu. :-)
