The Hill House

Strangely I had never been to The Hill House in Helensburgh before but today we arranged to meet friends there , who had also never seen it.

Admired as Charles Rennie Mackintosh's domestic masterpiece it does not disappoint.   These days some people are a little dismissive about Mackintosh and his extraordinary creative talent  (particularly when it is over commercialised and over exposed)  but when  his work and that of his  creative partner and wife  Margaret Macdonald is seen together and in every detail and aspect of a building (down to and including the keys for the cabinets) then its subtle , often ethereal , beauty does very much strike home.

I took lots of pictures in the house and the lovely grounds and I will upload a few more to my Flickr site at some stage.  My extra picture shows a detail of a wall decoration .

However my chosen main picture today comes from one of the bedrooms and is a miniature of perfection
