Success!

Since the spring, we have been watching a pair of moorhens (Gallinula chloropus) on the river as they nested. They have fought off floods and gulls, and (we thought) always failed to hatch any chicks. We were convinced that they were on a hiding to nothing, this season, but persistence has paid off :)

Further up the Water, a young pair of swans seem to be challenging the resident pair, with much busking and fighting and politics going on. The residents still have three cygnets with them, it will be interesting to see who takes ultimate control of the stretch of water...

In the evening we went for a splendid meal provided by Shandonner and Bignonioides, with fine mooching and entertainment provided by the handsome Cabot/Meatbag :)

Cheers, chaps!
