A concrete love affair

Dalnamein Bridge

The incredible concrete of Sir Owen Williams and Maxwell Ayrton’s 1924 Dalnamein Bridge. Its not merely the amazing, bucolic sculptural concrete that gets me so enthused about this structure or the vital connection it was provided between Perth and Inverness for 70 years; its the connection it has to other structures in Sir Owen Williams esteemed career.. You can hardly view it as a stand alone when this engineer built the first sections of M1 motorway and Spaghetti Junction, both paragons of connectivity..

Spey Bridge...
Barnaby Nutt is surveying this most fantastic concrete, and probably the most bucolic of all the old A9 bridges! Sir Owen Williams Spey Bridge has endured over 90 Scottish winters, its weathered to become at one with the landscape, indeed enchancing the surrounding views.

Findhorn Flood Arch
Wonderful collaboration here between Sir Owen Williams and Thomas Telford… Thomase Telford built the brick of this flood arch, while Sir Owen WIlliams nearly 100 years later widened it with this beautiful concrete!

Kylesku Bridge.. More on that stunning structure on tomorrow's blip!
