Day 15

Day 15. Altnaharra to Thurso. Just 54 miles today with very pleasant weather. Our Lejog cabins were great, very comfy. Breakfast was good and substantial, and we chatted with other guests. Everyone else were there for the fishing. One portly chap was surprised at our daily mileage. His comment of " well that is why you are so thin!" This made chuckle all day.

From Altnaharra we cycled downhill for 22 miles into quite a stiff headwind through the beautiful Strathniver valley. We saw wild dear, an eagle, a grouse in someone's garden and lots of sheep.. We reached the sea at Bettyhill, where the cafe was sadly closed so we sat on a bench and ate macaroni pies (very Scottish). They weren't too bad, followed by a Tonnocks caramel wafer, when I bought these I said all I needed was a bottle of iron bru!
The rest of the route took as east along the coast with the wind now helping us. We cycled up and down a series of large steady 300 ft climbs past Dounreay power station and downhill to Thurso. Just ahead of the shift change at the power station. Having ridden so long yesterday and today in such remote countryside it was weird being back in the throng of it.

Just one day left

So many pictures to choose from, I have added a few in extras
