The Titan Arum in the glasshouses at Edinburgh Royal Botanical Garden has flowered. We found out by chance last evening, and caught it today before it starts to disintegrate. We'd already missed its peak stinkiness - when it first opens it exudes an aroma of rotting fish, garlic, old broccoli, sweaty socks and stinking cheese. We were offered a bit ( you can see the hole) to sniff; I could only catch a faint greenish whiff, but Mr PB said it was nauseating.
