Mute tranquility

The Manchester Evening News ran a story on Monday about all the litter collected here. That started a social media storm, as these things do these days.

All the rivers in Greater Manchester, bar the Douglas in Wigan, drain through the Irwell to the Quays. When we have sustained periods of rain (what does sunshine look like, I've forgotten) litter and debris are swept off the river banks and down the Irwell, and end up here. So it's a perpetual problem.

The area in the foreground of this photo is Salford City Council's responsibility. So the City has cleared it. It all looked very tranquil this morning. The mute swan helpfully provided foreground interest. Behind me three rowers had just moored, and lots of little kids were doing exercises, before getting out onto the water to have some organised fun.
