Looking Up

I had to make a trip to the station today to pick up some tickets. After the cold yesterday the weather has turned quite warm. Blue skies prevailed over the usual cloud.

I walked up to Castlegate. There are quite a lot of people and traffic, so I was unable to get a good shot without one or the other, or both. Where have all the people come from, why aren't they working?

To get a photograph without traffic I pointed the camera towards the roof of the Townhouse, and the Tolbooth, the latter being the smaller spire with the clock. This building is one of the oldest in Aberdeen, and used to be a prison. The Tolbooth building itself is enclosed in more modern constructions, so the original building can only be seen from the inside, a fairly grim place to spend any length of time.

The figure at roof level is Ceres, the goddess of plenty. She is sitting on top of what used to be the Clydesdale Bank but is now a pub. She dates from 1844 and was the work of James Giles. She looks out over the Castlegate but she will be hoping not to get lost among the weeds that are growing up around her. Shouldn't it be the job of the pub owners (Weatherspoons) to dispose of the weeds?
