Austrian Stuff #8 - Birthdays.

Significant birthdays in Austria are often marked by friends or family setting up one's front yard with an effigy and a poster to mark the occasion. This is our neighbour's front yard - she turned 60 a couple of days ago. The torrential rain we had has washed away some of the writing so it took me a while to get it. It roughly translates as '60th year in flight and not a bit tired.'  You will often find the person's job represented - the figure will often have a uniform such as nurse, fireman, policeman. This lady is retired so I guess they think she sits around in the sun all day.
No one did anything for mine 2 years ago so I guess I am not quite thought of as Austrian yet.
