Neon sign just off Route 66 in ABQ, NM

This is a quite recent neon sign in Albuquerque, just off Central Ave which is the old street through Albuquerque (ABQ) which was part of Route 66. My sign signifies the up-market area called ABQ Uptown.

Classic neon signs are recognized as intrinsic to the culture and history of Route 66. The New Mexico Route 66 Neon Sign Restoration Project resulted in the restoration of nine classic neon signs in the communities of Tucumcari, Santa Rosa, Moriarty, Albuquerque, Grants, and Gallup.

These signs include motels, restaurants, and a curio shop that served Route 66 travelers. Paladian and I have driven along much of the old Route 66 and loved it.

The restoration project was a partnership of the New Mexico Route 66 Association, the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division, and the National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation office.

My blip today is a modern tribute to all of the famous old neon signs that were once a highlight of Route 66.
