remains of SE tower of Corfe Castle

This tower, with accompanying curtain walls, were built during the reign of King Edward I in the late 13th century.

The tower, which stands on an older stone plinth, is coated in ashlar.  There are a number of dents in the ashlar, perhaps attributable to cannon balls fired at it in 1643 or 1645 when the castle was under siege during the civil war.
