Giants

Took ourselves westwards today for a closer look at the Kelpies - giant horse head sculptures near Falkirk. We've seen them before while whizzing along the motorway - they suddenly appear over the verge and are quite startling.

Close to they are even more impressive. In fact the whole site is just wonderful - beautifully landscaped and with excellent interpretation. 

The horses are modelled on real Clydesdales, heavy work horses of the type that used to haul boats on the nearby canal. And the name Kelpies also refers to giant water-horses, but of the mythical kind. 

It was a dull and misty day, which muted the shine on the metal but added an air of mystery.
