Thank You For the Days ..

Round and Round ......

Abstract Thursday challenge today (thanks once more to Ingeborg) ....

To make this miniature sewing machine stitch, you turn the handle round and round and round and round ... it sews a lovely neat chain stitch.

I used to collect old sewing machines, but I've stopped now, as I've run out of space and you can only sew on one machine at a time.

This was made by the Essex Engineering Works, in Wansted, E11.  They started making them at the end of the war, when sewing machines were in short supply.  Before that they had been making precision tools and parts for guns, and pre-war they repaired one-armed bandits.  I think they may still be going, as makers of mechanisms for slot-machines. Quite a history!

On a different note, the extra was taken by TM this morning. He's down south staying with Daughter: at breakfast she said to N  "Put the Marmite on your toast" - and she did just that.  And she was very pleased with her joke.
