Gaggle of Gliders

It's the start of Day 1 at the 19th European Gliding Championships at Lasham Gliding Centre (the world's largest gliding club) and the sight at the launch point is something else.

The gliders line up in two long rows, crew balancing the wings weighted with water, pilots strapped in the cockpit with parachutes on, tug pilots raring to go with the tug planes. Word is it's a good day for thermals and the competitors should get a good 5 or 6 hours flight time in.

Enjoying the sunshine after commentating the opening ceremony air show last night as 65 competitors from around 25 countries across Europe and New Zealand prepare to compete in the championships for the next fortnight. Note - The Kiwis are taking part to practice for the worlds and won't be allowed to win!

You can follow the competition progress on the Facebook page and there's a nifty video from the ceremony last night. I've purchased my first soaring hat today and am going to book another gliding flight soon!

Dropped my phone last night...think it I'll need repair!
