Big Foot

As you may gather if you have a look at my back blip for yesterday,
I'm in London for a few days, and made a return visit to the British Museum.

This Colossal Foot is an ancient Roman carving from the first or second century. It's wearing a Greek sandal and was originally part of the colossal statue of a senior god. It originated near Naples and was presented to the British Museum by Sir William Hamilton in 1784.

What impressed me - apart from the sheer size of it - was the way the little toe bulges bulbously, and turns under, sporting a proportionately tiny nail: so vulnerably human for the foot of a warrior god.
