Captains Wharf

It is my mum's 82nd birthday today so we have been to the North East to take mum and dad out for lunch.

After a very pleasant lunch we went for a drive along the sea front and the river Tyne in South Shields. This is Brigham and Cowan's  old dry dock, which is now no longer dry and has apartments around its perimeter. These metal boats are part of a art installation entitled Fleet by Irene Brown.

Couple of extras taken on the beach this morning while we were giving Reggie a run. The long line of wood going into the sea is  the remains of a old seaplane runway from WW1 - or at least half of it, the other part being to the left of this one.

And here endeth today's history lesson of South Shields!
