My Favourite Walk

M and I did the circular ‘Bayfield Bird Walk’ this morning.  It’s my favourite because there is such a variety of habitat to enjoy.  We started at the boat yard, café and art gallery at Glandford, then through some undulating farm land with far-reaching views, past fields of wild flowers, through shady woodland, then along the River Glaven to the ‘Natural Surroundings Café’.  This cafe is also a wildflower garden centre and a nature reserve too. We enjoyed a delicious gooseberry ice cream here, and enjoyed watching the harvest mice playing around, they breed them here and release them into their reserve.  Then we set off along the side of the gentle river valley, over a ford and back to the start.  Today we saw a large flock of goldfinch feeding on the seeds in the meadow, long-tailed tits and (sadly) a couple of dead rabbits, I think it must be a good area for raptors, we did see a buzzard circling overhead.
All in all, a beautiful walk, lovely sunny weather but with enough of a cool breeze to make walking comfortable.  I had difficulty deciding what to blip but in the end, chose a mono of the River Glaven and a close up of one of the seed heads in the meadow at the beginning of the walk (see extra).

A perfect Sunday morning!
