Undeterred

We have spent the morning on a recce locally.  It began with a visit to Cartwright Hall in Lister Park to view the Hockney Exhibition which opened in July to mark the artist's 80th Birthday.  It had some interesting biographical information (Hockney first lived and went to school not far from where I spent my childhood) in addition to some of his artworks in different media.  He visited Cartwright Hall as a young boy to draw the exhibits.

We also wandered the other galleries, which included an Open Exhibition of artwork.  My favourite piece was an incredibly ornately carved chunk of tree, which took me back to the Kauri carvings in NZ.  This piece was a mass of flowers, leaves and berries and its sale price was £1.5m!

From Cartwright Hall we went seeking lunch in Saltaire, parking up at Roberts Park.  The Half Moon Cafe has reopened after the flooding of two years ago but the menu was restricted to half a dozen items and some unappealing cakes so we walked up to Salt's Mill and tried both the Diner (no menu joy either!) finishing up in the Cafe at the Opera where I had a very tasty rarebit and Tony wished he hadn't ordered the salmon!!  The shared Victoria Sandwich restored our foodie spirits somewhat so we headed home via a brief stop off at the Tourist Information.

This heron on the weir by Salt's Mill was completely unfazed by the noise from the children's playground or the tourists watching him/her from the bridge over the river.
