Aster

Aster divaricatus has just started to flower. Although this is a good plant for a shady spot, we have it in a very dry border, and it really doesn't like it much. It's been slowly losing vigour for years, although it's still spreading, probably in search of moisture... But it's very pretty and lovely to see at a time when other things are finished or going over. If we had a better place for it I'd move it, but that would still leave a dry, shady spot to find another plant for. So far the only thing we've found that really likes that part of the garden is euphorbia amygdaloides robbiae, which is admittedly impressive when it's flowering. In the end I expect it will take over.
