State Bird

Our campground is alive with quail, great waves of them scouring the brush, morning, noon and evening. Mostly they move like the tide, sweeping in and rushing away at the slightest disturbance, but this flock stayed at the edge of our site for a good long time, feeding on thistle seeds and crunching around in the dried grasses.

We had a lovely walk this morning on Wright's Beach on the Sonoma Coast. It's much rockier than our beaches at home, more like Oregon, with great dark fingers lifting up out of the surf. The welcoming sign, in Extras, does give one pause, but we made it unscathed.
