The hole in the donut

This morning Sarah, Sebastian and I went in to Timaru.  
We started with coffee at a cafe I like.  Wandered around some shops.  Finished with coffee at a different cafe.

While we were whizzing down the motorway on our way home, Sarah spotted this.  Of course I had to turn around and go back.  The sheep have eaten a hole in the middle of the hay (probably to get at the driest stuff) and these lambs were taking turns at standing IN the hay bale to eat. 

It was great to watch.  This lamb wasn't letting anyone else have a turn.  Each of the others would try to jump in but there just wasn't room for two and they'd tumble out again.

I'll have to go back in a few days and see how much further they've eaten.
