Ceylon Stage Dramas

On a relaxing Saturday evening, I would definitely look out for a good stage drama to watch. Watching a live drama unfold a few feet away from your seats, is much more exhilarating than watching a movie on the big screen. The soothing music in the background, the deep voices of the actors, the props are more than enough to make your day. Most of all I like the type of crowd who gets attracted to these dramas as well. Out of all the places, Lionel Wendt is one of my favourite theatres.

Some of the best stage dramas in the country are Makarakshaya, Colombo Colombo, Birnadage Sipirigeya, Romaya Ginigani part 2, Neinage Suduwa, Kelani Palama, Balloth Ekka Behe, Dhawala Bheeshana & Suba saha Yasa.

The Sinhala culture, its values & major incidents in history are nicely portrayed in many of these dramas & some of them are of foreign themes which're very beautiful as well. Productions of Dharmasiri Bandaranaya is always a hit. Best stage drama actors of this generation are Jackson Anthony, Sriyantha Mendis, Rodney Warnakula, Wijaya Nandasiri, Yashodha, Chandanani Senevirathna, Duleeka Marapana & Kaushalya.

"The Stage" is where every actors' career starts. Some have dedicated their entire lives to this industry. I think this is one of the best experiences one can have to calm their minds amidst the daily busy schedules.
