Times Square

After the peace, quiet and open spaces of Nebraska, New York is a huge contrast - busy, noisy, crowded, bright:  and I'm loving it.  It is 29 years since I was last here:  far too long.

We have walked a lot around the city today, including some time spent in Central Park. This afternoon we checked into our hotel right by Times Square.  The hotel location is fantastic and, once the hotel had offered us a suite at no extra cost because the original room we were offered was so small, poky, dowdy and didn't match the description on the web site, we were very happy.  After an excellent meal in the restaurant associated with the hotel (and probably a little too much to drink) we wandered into Times Square to watch the activities.  The place was buzzing: crowded with people just enjoying themselves.  There were lots of people taking pictures or selfies, illuminated by the day-bright electronic advertising hoardings which are such a feature of this location (the one place in NY where the buildings are required to have electronic displays with a minimum brightness specified).  Great fun.
