Derwent House Island

After all the traveling earlier this week it was nice to remember that we had tickets to visit Derwent House which is on (funnily enough!) Derwent House Island on Derwent Water. The forecast was for rain but that was all wrong as it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon.

We got to Keswick in time for a quick lunch at the new Cafe by the Lake and then we wandered down to the waters edge where we were given life jackets and then paddled our way in canoes across to the Island. There were 16 of us in the group, the last to go over this season. We were met by a guide who was both informative and interesting and he led us through the gardens and into the house.

It's National Trust and the house has tenants in who are currently on holiday. What a stunning house. And an interesting history.

After the house tour we had an hour to ourselves to explore the island and take in some of the views, made more magnificent by the glorious weather.

Such a tranquil and serene place. Can't believe we haven't made this trip before after all these years. It's been hard to pick just one photo to use as my blip !
