Klaksvik

Backblip

Today was our visit to Klaksvik in the Faroe Islands, part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Our tour was in the afternoon, so in the morning we walked into the small town (the Faroe's 2nd largest) to look at the shops...........unfortunately it was a Sunday and nothing was open!!!

The tour was around the Faroe's 2nd largest island of Eysturoy which you got to via a 3.5 mile undersea tunnel (the Faroe's consists of 18 rocky volcanic islands). The countryside was lovely, but more spectacular in the sail in and away. The government is connecting all villages by road or undersea tunnel - heaven knows where they get the money from as the last undersea tunnel built was to connect a village with 35 people!  We went to Blasastova which is a museum, although actually a traditional Faroese wooden-walled and turf-roofed village (see my photo postcard in Extras). We also visited what we thought was a factory showing the processes involved in making Faroese knitwear, but it was actually a big knitwear shop.
