New Network Connections

Took the dogs for a walk in Erkheim as I needed to pick up a prescription from my GP. On the way heard on the car radio that today was the official start of the first Ryanair plane being based at Memmingen Munich West International airport. Involves apparently 35 people being employed, so good for the job market and naturally a big boost for the airport management.

I have a love-hate relationship with the airport and not simply on a NIMBY basis especially as we have little or no noise from the airport. Personally, it's a great asset as far as the travel arrangements of my children are concerned with flights from Dublin and Stanstead. However, as a taxpayer, it is very difficult to reconcile the massive monetary losses and subsidies it gets with all the other issues of environmental impact on those on the flight path, job creation, making the region more attractive for tourism and investment etc. A difficult issue.

No idea how the future of inter European flight connections will pan out with the Brexit issues. Mr Ryanair is I know not a great friend of Brexit but of course, many of his customers live there. I think the plane that is being stationed at Memmingen will however not be involved in the British Isles routes, more Scandanavia and the Med.

As we did the walk, two Ryanair planes came into land.
